My shoulder was hanging off the side, dangling in the wind - it’s a deal-breaker if you fall. “The idea was to climb up and spend the night at 450ft, which I wasn’t that comfortable about given how tiny the stretcher was. His hairiest moment was when he found himself clinging to a stretcher half-way up a cliff face. I flew this huge glider and I landed about 10ft short of the Wright Brothers first flight. “And as the wind got up I started running along this big sand dune and took off. “At one stage I found myself standing on top of a sand dune and strapped to this replica of the Wright Brothers plane, waiting for the wind to get up to about 35 – 40 mph, which, if you’ve ever done gliding or parachuting you know you would never fly in those conditions. “When we did those trips, we went through countries relatively quickly.” For this series he had the chance to explore parts of America that fascinated him – Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, New Orleans and Utah – attempting numerous madcap challenges along the way. ![]()
